SUPPLY LIST FOR PAINTING

These are materials you should get in the U.S.  Pack them in your checked luggage.

Lightweight backpack

Pochade box (make) or half-French-easel

Photo tripod (small, lightweight)

Wet painting carrier box (make)

Brushes

Brush carrier (plastic tube type)

Palette knife

Closeable clip-on palette cup(s) (order or purchase locally)

Artists’ Tape

Sketchbook

Drawing materials (pencils, pens, erasers)

Painting surface options:

Gessoed rag paper, torn to a standard size to fit box

Gessoed lightweight panel material (rag board, mounting board, luan) cut to fit carrier box

Pre-primed unstretched canvas (mount later)

Foam-core panels cut to fit carrier box

Paints: (Can be purchased in the U.S. and packed in your checked luggage, not your carry on. Pack in a heavy duty zip-lock plastic freezer bag.)

Cadmium red light or medium

Alizarin crimson

Ultramarine or Cobalt blue

Cerulean blue

Cadmium yellow lemon

Cadmium yellow

Raw sienna

Raw umber

Titanium white (large tube)

DO NOT BUY OR PACK SOLVENTS, LINSEED OIL, OR PAINTING MEDIUMS. The airlines will confiscate them. Purchase these in Italy.

ADDITIONAL GEAR FOR PAINTING OUTDOORS:

Baseball cap, visor or other hat

Sunscreen

Lightweight windbreaker / weatherproof

Folding stool (optional)

Photo tri-pod (can be used if you add a hardware piece to your pochade box)

PURCHASE IN ITALY:

Turpentine (Trementina)

Linseed or stand oil

Paper towels

Additional colors (optional)
